Characteristics and advantages of welded box columns
Welded box columns are manufactured by welding four steel sheets with full penetration into a closed square or rectangular cross-section and have mechanical properties with equal rigidity in two directions. Their resistance to torsion, bending and horizontal movement significantly exceeds that of conventional I-columns, making them an ideal solution for long-span workshops with heavy-duty cranes, high-rise steel structures and other scenarios with high loads and increased seismic requirements.
It is possible to customize cross-sectional dimensions, wall thicknesses and column heights according to requirements. Internal stiffening ribs and diaphragms are provided for working in difficult conditions. At the ends of the columns, standardized holes for bolted connections, cantilever platforms and other structural elements are pre-provided, ensuring quick modular installation on the site. For manufacturing, base steel grade Q355B is used, with the possibility of replacing it with high-viscosity grades, such as Q420B, for operation in low temperatures and coastal areas. Automated welding and non-destructive testing using ultrasonic and magnetic particle flaw detection are used, which, in combination with an anti-corrosion coating with a service life of more than 15 years, ensures the safety and durability of the structure.
In terms of performance characteristics: torsional resistance is 3-5 times higher than that of I-beam columns, capable of withstanding extremely heavy loads of over 100 tons, and have extremely high structural stability. In terms of costs: the cost of the foundation is reduced by more than 30 percent compared to reinforced concrete columns, installation time is reduced by more than 60 percent. The entire production process strictly complies with the government standard GB 50205, the columns are 100 percent recyclable, safe and environmentally friendly. Widely used in heavy industrial workshops, logistics parks, high-rise office buildings and large structures, being the main load-bearing frame for buildings with high loads.
